Workshops and Events
At our studio, we strive to offer more than just drop-in classes—our goal is to provide opportunities for deeper exploration and growth in yoga. From multi-week series that build skills progressively to one-time workshops and specialized programs, we offer something for every stage of practice. Whether you're exploring prenatal yoga, diving into trauma-informed approaches, or progressing as a beginner, our offerings are designed to deepen your connection to yoga. We also provide advanced learning opportunities for yoga teachers seeking continuing education, with content open to all but tailored for teacher-level development.
Prenatal Yoga Series
December 3rd-17th
Every Tuesday
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Are you expecting or do you know a mama looking for some community?
Join us for our Prenatal Yoga series, where we embrace the unique challenges and joys of pregnancy, fostering a sense of togetherness while prioritizing the health and well-being of both mother and baby. This course is thoughtfully designed to empower you with mindfulness, physical strength, and relaxation techniques tailored to the journey of pregnancy.
We start each class by sharing our current joys (& not so happy moments) of pregnancy, as well as our experiences in the ever changing health care system. We then settle into practice with pregnancy specific meditations & kriyas, followed with gentle yoga designed to support the needs of the pregnant body & your sweet, growing baby.
Class concludes with deep guided meditation which teaches you to go into deep relaxation, the kind you will use when you give birth to your baby.
Yoga helps alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy: nausea, constipation, swelling, back pain, & sciatica. This class includes a mixture of balancing, strengthening & stretching poses that are appropriate during pregnancy, emphasizing breathing & relaxation.
Yoga Essentials: Pranayama
December 12th
Thursday, 5:30pm-6:30pm
Yoga is far more than just physical poses—it’s a holistic practice that encompasses eight interconnected limbs. In this workshop, we’ll explore pranayama, the fourth limb of yoga, which focuses on the art and science of breath control. Discover how pranayama can:
-
Calm the nervous system and reduce stress.
-
Improve focus, clarity, and mental resilience.
-
Boost energy and vitality.
-
Enhance lung capacity and overall respiratory health.
-
Support emotional balance and inner peace.
We’ll practice transformative techniques, including:
-
Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) to balance energy and calm the mind.
-
Kapalabhati (Cleansing Breath) to energize the body and clear mental fog.
-
Ujjayi (Victorious Breath) to deepen focus and promote relaxation.
This workshop is open to all levels, whether you’re new to yoga or looking to deepen your practice.
Symbols, Stories, and signs of Yoga with Dennis Hawk
January 12th
Join us at Mala Yoga for a 1.5 hour workshop with Dennis Hawk, Yoga instructor, Kirtan leader, recording artist and flute maker. Formerly, Dennis was a psychotherapist, community organizer, inner-city pastor and always an avid student of mythology, philosophy, poetry and music.
From Dennis:
I have heard from my students as well as countless other yoga practitioners that practicing yoga has altered the course of their lives. I had one fellow yoga instructor say to me, “There is a before and after yoga, ME.” I believe this, because when we experience a yoga class, we have explored 20+ metaphors that we call yoga poses or Asana. These poses are change agents.
In this workshop, I will explore the nature of this change. Yoga is an ancient practice with a deep thread. Once we are able to see the thread that runs from Asana to Symbol to Story to Song (chant) we begin to unravel the mystery around the changes that take place in us when we practice yoga.
In many senses, this is an inward journey. As the psychologist Carl Jung says, “The gods and goddesses of India represent aspects of our own personality.”
What to expect? Demonstrations of yoga poses, Story-telling, Mantra chanting and FUN!
Introduction to Ashtanga
February 2nd-23rd
Sundays, 8:00am-9:00am
In this 4-week series, we will meet once a week to explore the Ashtanga Yoga asana method. Ashtanga is a traditional method of vinyasa that synchronizes movement & posture with the rhythm of the breath. It is a set sequence of poses intentionally organized to progress the student deeper into their body, mind, & inner self to achieve eventual total self transformation.
In this series, we will:
-
Learn the history & lineage of Ashtanga into the present day
-
Learn the opening & closing mantras
-
Learn how to use bandhas & pranayama to strengthen your practice
-
Practice the Ashtanga Yoga & Mysore (self practice) Method!
By the end of this series you will feel confident in any of our ashtanga classes, & be prepared to begin Mysore practice!
